Today will kick off the 2010 Gulf South Conference Tournament in Southhaven, Miss., and both UNA basketball teams will be competing. The women's team finished the season as the second seed from the East Division and the men earned the third seed.
The women's team will match up against Harding for their fourth straight post-season appearance under Terry Fowler today at the DeSoto Civic Center. UNA split 1-1 this season against Harding, with home court advantage proving to be the deciding factor in each game.
The Lady Lions ended the season on a high note, winning 87-61 over Lambuth. UNA finished with a 17-13 overall record.
The men's team will head to the tournament for an impressive eighth straight time. The team will open up against the West Division's second seeded team Delta State tomorrow at 5:30. The Statesmen handed the Lions a five-point loss earlier this season.
The Lions suffered a heartbreaking loss against Lambuth to close out the season. A Rory Miller barely missed 3-point shot to win the game, and UNA were dealt a 96-93 loss. The men's team finished the year with a 13-14 record.
Second-round play will begin on Saturday for both the men and women.
