Super Bowl XLIV could be an instant classic
Ben Skipworth, Zach Melton, Ben Ray, and Chase Barnett
Issue date: 2/4/10 Section: Sports
It's the most wonderful time of the year for sports fans. Feb. 7 will pit a classic showdown of the No. 1 team from the AFC against the No. 1 team from the NFC. Super Bowl XLIV should follow the trend of the past two years, proving to be an intense and entertaining game.
This is what The Flor-Ala sports staff has to say about the big game.
Skipworth: What is the most important aspect of the Saint's game plan to shut down Peyton Manning?
Zack Melton: The only realistic way to stop Peyton Manning is to have him on his back, of course. Getting to him will be a problem. He, like any other great quarterback, will keep the play going with his feet. And unlike any other QB in the NFL, the "C" on his jersey does not stand for captain; he is a coordinator in uniform. PM does a fantastic job of reading blitzes, calling the right audible at the right time and displays great arm strength.
Ben Ray: I do not think that there is anything the Saints can do to stop Peyton Manning. Peyton has picked apart two of the league's top defenses in the postseason in the Ravens and Jets, and the Saints defense just got picked apart by a Brett Favre. I do not think that they will be able to stop Peyton; instead, I think that the Saints should just plan on scoring 49 points to win. Then, pray that Manning and the offense stall on just one drive.
Chase Barnett: We all know that Manning is Hall of Fame bound and that he possesses an awareness ?that is unrivaled, but to every giant there is an Achilles Heel, and I'm? thinking Manning's is his mobility. The Colts have a great offensive line, but ?if anything breaks down up front and Manning is forced to use his legs, he becomes ?a very beatable QB. The trick is to rush up the gut and not off the edges. Rushing off ?the edges just allows him to step up in the pocket while up the middle makes him? run and takes the accuracy out of his arm.
Skipworth: Will it be the Colts offense or defense that is key to their success on the field?
