The annual event that drives people from all over the state of Alabama to lose weight is back in action this week.

The fourth annual Scale Back Alabama held weigh-ins from Jan. 23-29.

The goal of Scale Back Alabama is to make weight loss fun and competitive. It is a ten week competition where individuals or teams compete to lose the most weight. Last year, the competition attracted over 40,000 people who shed over 200,000 pounds during the competition.

Scale Back Alabama is trying to get people in the state to become healthier. The fact that competitors are competing against people they know gives them more incentive to lose weight. After the competition ends, competitors have learned healthier ways to eat and the benefits of exercising.

In order for the competition to work, local businesses, hospitals and health offices all over Alabama serve as weigh-in sites for competitors. Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital and Court House Racquet Club are available in Florence. Keller Wellcare Center in Sheffield and Shoals Hospital in Muscle Shoals are also serving as weigh-in
