Welcome to the future. The year is 2026 and in a post WW3 environment the world's military control is in the hands of three Private Military Corporations.

Enlist and join Raven, Valor or S.V.E.R. and put your skills to work in battles that actually matter.

Every win and loss has consequences towards your PMC. This is the future of tactical action and FPS mayhem.

You start every battle in a squad of eight. For my character I chose to enlist with the technology based PMC Raven. After choosing your PMC you are taken to a character customization screen where there are choices for voice and face.

Once done creating a character the faction's interface screen is revealed where players can customize load outs in the armory, party up with friends and deploy into missions.

Make a load for every situation by editing up to five equipment setups. Configure weapons, gear and apparel. Each soldier is allotted a certain number of 'c' so choose carefully.

The skill tree is the most intricate and specialized of any FPS to date. Every level up earns a skill point to allocate where you see fit.

After you play so many matches you earn RESPEC points that allow you to reset your skill points and re-apply them to change the style of your soldier.

Once a player reaches higher levels they have the chance to become a squad leader, platoon leader and eventually Officer in Charge. With new power comes new responsibility as leaders must make sure that everything stays up and operational as they defend or attack.

MAG is a shooter that doesn't emphasize shooting. Team work is a must and when the gears are well oiled it makes for a great multiplayer experience. You can impact the game greatly by running as a medic and healing team members or as an engineer and rebuilding assets essential to victory.

Battles are far from repetitive when the maps are so large in scale and make the option of approach different every time.

Suppression, Sabotage, Acquisition and Domination are the various play types available. Players involved increase from 64 to 256 respectively.

PS3 owners will be busy with MAG for a long time to come. Developer Zipper has mentioned some DLC already and will be giving this game constant attention and tweaks making sure it holds the spot as Sony's shining FPS star.

4.5 out of 5. A must buy for any PS3 owner.
