UNA student wins competition for industrial hygiene research
Issue date: 1/14/10 Section: News
Lacy Casteel, a UNA industrial hygiene major and a senior in the Honors Program, was one of this year's winners in a competition held by the American Industrial Hygiene Association, Mid-Tennessee Section (AIHA-MTS). The competition considered academic research papers submitted by students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs in occupational health at universities in the region, including southern Kentucky, northern Alabama and Tennessee.
Casteel's honors research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Crescente Figueroa, a professor of industrial hygiene at UNA. She presented her paper, "Evaluation of Slot Loss Coefficients," and received a cash award at the fall meeting of the AIHA-MTS in Nashville Dec. 9.
Casteel is the third student from the UNA industrial hygiene program to receive this award. Previous winners include David Wilkerson, for his research "Ergonomics Risk Factors Associated to an Automobile Tire Changing Station" (2007), and Christopher Davis, for "Evaluating Entry Coefficients of Compound Suction Hoods" (2008).
