Golf team wins UNA Spring Classic

Despite rainy conditions all day, UNA managed to hold on to its narrow lead and edged Washburn by two strokes in the UNA Spring Classic at the Robert Trent Jones of the Shoals Fighting Joe Course. UNA's final round of 308 gave the Lions a 21-over-par 597 total. Washburn made up just one stroke on UNA with a 307 total and finished at 599.
Washburn's Matt Ewald and UNA's Wes Smith and Brett Munson tied for medalist honors
at 145. There was no playoff
due to the rain. Ewald had rounds of 71 and 74, while Smith shot 70 and 75 and Munson 72 and 73. Also on the all-tournament
team were Justin Yoder of Central Missouri, Dustin Yeager of Washburn and Steven Brame of Lynn, all at 146.
Following UNA and Washburn in the top 10 in the team standings were Lander (608), Lynn (610), Indianapolis (611), Arkansas Tech (612), Rollins (612), St. Edwards (615), Northeastern State (619) and Central Missouri (619).
Grand Valley State was 11th at (622), followed by Delta State (626), Cameron (629), West Georgia (630), Tampa (637), Lincoln (644), William Carey (647), Montevallo (649), Ouachita Baptist (657), Lambuth (665), UNA Gold (666), Henderson State (677), Faulkner (682) and Christian Brothers (714).
In addition to Smith and Munson, UNA's Jake Greer shot 78 for a 152 total. David Gies, II shot 82 for a 158 total and Tyler Chandler shot 92 for 165 total.
UNA's Gold team finished 90 strokes over par at 666. Wes Coleman led the UNA Gold with a 155 total, while Alex Hirai shot 160, Graham Byron 174 and J.P. Taylor 177.
