OH, HOW IT SHINES - Students from China admire a piece of artwork at the Birmingham Museum of Art. The Center for International Programs took students to the museum for their spring break trip.

On Saturday, April 11, the Center for International Programs (CIP) took 34 students to the Birmingham Museum of Art for their Spring Day Trip. After the museum visit, the students spent time at the Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham.

CIP had an overwhelming response of students wanting to go on the trip. "We had to book another van to accommodate everyone who signed up," said student

worker Travis Parker. Three university vans were requested to take all students.

The trip consisted of students from China, Japan, India, Vietnam and Senegal, which was approprate conserdering

the museum exhibits contained collections from China, Korea, Japan, India, Southeast Asia and Vietnam. It also contained examples of Buddhist and Hindu art, lacquer ware, ceramics, paintings, prints and sculpture.

Students said they had fun at the "Town of the Creek Nation" exhibit because it was interactive. They got to try on Native American outfits, try their hand at tribal art, make patterns using beads, and create their own tribal music.

English as a Second Language student Mital Patel said, "I like to know how people lived back in the days, their clothes, their modes of entertainment. The Creek exhibit allowed us to touch and feel, unlike other exhibits.

It was real."

The group went to Riverchase Galleria for lunch and shopping. Students said they were delighted to see stores that do not have branches in Florence, such as White House/Black Market, Godiva Chocolatier, and The Disney Store. "I like shopping, so the mall was the highlight

of my day," said Mital.

"The trip was successful. Students had a lot of fun, and I had fun coordinating the event with everyone. For such a quickly put together trip, it could not have been better," added Parker.
