"Jazz and Blues Night" will feature a DJ, as well as a different band performing
each week. All musicians are encouraged
to participate, and everyone should plan to have "all kinds of fun," said general
manager James Jennings.
One Way Street will be the first group to head up "Jazz & Blues Night," and the Smokehouse will have specials on billiards, food and beverages. "We have the best food in the Shoals," said Jennings. Mane Card users get an additional
10 percent off on Thursday nights. "It's a great idea. I'm hopeful for some good business," said Smokehouse bartender
Brian Childers.
The Smokehouse is also getting ready to host another Battle of the Bands. Jamie Allen is putting the event together, and the registration deadline is March 20. The preliminaries will be held on March 27, while the final event will be on March 28. Planet Ink is one group already signed up for the event.
"I love that we can get a show here," said Alexander Bowling, singer for the group.
Jennings requests that all interested groups sign up as soon as possible to avoid an overcrowded schedule for the event.
Fraternities and sororities can now rent the Smokehouse for private
parties, as well. The venue offers several pool tables, and a extensive menu. "We are the oldest
establishment in Florence, and when people try our Philly Cheese sandwich, they won't want no other," Jennings said. For information about renting the venue, call (256) 764-0101.
Upcoming concerts at the Smokehouse include The Ray Brothers on Feb. 21 and Grown Folks Band on March 7. More information can be found at www.myspace.com/smokehouse06.
"I love the food, the people
and the music," said Jimmy Cassell, just before Open Mic/Karaoke Night on Monday.
