'Tis the season to be crazy

T The Flor-Ala! he holiday season, for
some, is a great time
of year. People go
shopping with their families,
enjoy holiday food specials,
and get great deals on things
that they will never use
after December 31st. When
it comes to the holidays, I
have a different view. I have a view from
the other side of the counter that lets me
see a different side of the holiday season.
I work at Le Beau's Coffees and
Creamin the Regency Square Mall. Le
Beau's is a coffee shop in Florence,
Alabama. I have been working at Le
Beau's for almost three years now, and for
the most part, I have enjoyed it.
During my time at Le Beau's, I have
noticed how many people's attitudes
change as soon as Thanksgiving passes
and the journey into the dreaded holiday
shopping season begins. "I really enjoy
the holiday season," says Wendy Le Beau,
owner of Le Beau's Coffees and Cream.
Working in the mall during the holidays
gives me a chance to meet with
some of these "crazies." This year, my
first encounter with a member of this
prestigious group came on the day after
thanksgiving. A middle aged woman came
in with her mother and three children.
At the time she came in, we
were in the middle of a rush, and
it took around ten minutes to get
a chance to take her order. After
the woman ordered, she told me
that she wished that Thanksgiving
would have fell on a Tuesday
this year, because if the day after
thanksgiving was on a Wednesday
there wouldn't have been as many
people in the mall.
The next encounter came later
that day when a man, standing around
seven-foot-tall, came in and ordered a shot
of espresso. At this time I thought that
I had actually came across a real coffee
drinker.
