Reader response to 'Public Safty, Segways'

This is absolutely ridiculous...
our tuition money went to pay for Segways because campus safety is too lazy to walk!? Give me a break, please. It is insane that they get to ride Segways because patrolling campus is tiring. This is what they get PAID TO DO!! Does UNA's campus safety feel any pain or sympathy for those students who have to walk half a mile or more just to get to classes that they are PAYING to take?? I don't think so.
It's nice to know that our hard earned tuition money is being wasted...yet again. Instead of worrying about making the campus police officers' jobs "more interesting"
and "less tiring", perhaps UNA could better spend OUR money on fixing the parking problem or on building maintenance,
such as Floyd Science Building.
Does anyone ever wonder WHY UNA is not interested in finding a solution to the parking problem? Perhaps it is because the less parking spaces that are available, the MORE TICKETS they get to write, which means more money in their pocket. A student has two choices: 1) Park in an illegal spot, or 2) Be late or even miss class. I don't know about anyone else, but I have had professors in the past who count tardies as absences, no matter the reason. Which one do you think most students
will opt for? Of course, park in an illegal spot knowing that what will greet you at the end of a long day of classes is a nice, fat, fine.
I am proud of where I go to college, but I have to say that UNA is failing miserable when it comes to adequately addressing student affairs and problems. They seem more concerned with making the campus police officers' jobs as luxurious as possible. Perhaps they ought to keep in mind that without us, the students, there would be no money, and then there would be no school.

I wonder how accurate it is to say that the Segways were bought with tuition money. The article I read said that they were bought with extra money from Student Affairs. (Continued…)

Actually the segways were perchased via government grant. This means the university was out nothing toward them. Second, would you feel like chasing someone after walking around campus for 6 hours in a black wool uniform. (Continued…)

I absolutely agree with both of you. The very first line of the article says that the segways were bought with student affairs money. NO WHERE did it say that our tuition had anything to do with their purchase. (Continued…)
