Guide to parkin'... and I don't mean parallel

Issue date: 10/11/07 Section: Opinion
Evidently, one of my recent c o l u m n s ,
"Make-out songs to get you going," turned out to be a pretty big hit. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback from readers. Thank you.
So, in the spirit of make-out music, I thought I'd give Flor-Ala readers some
ideal locations this week to play those
make-out songs and steam up their windshields.
You may be thinking, "Why would I bother going somewhere to make-out? Public displays of affection (PDAs) are not my style." Well, point taken. But, keep in mind, that your annoying suitemate in the dorms or your obnoxious apartment roommate may barge in on
you at any given time and insist on being the center of attention. It's over...waah waah. You got a whammy.
This is where your backup plan comes in, compliments of yours truly.
Now, similar rules are going to apply to
your make-out session setting as they
did to your music choices.
Choose an appropriate location. I can't stress this enough. Wal-mart's parking lot, and the view that it offers of Cox Creek Parkway is not romantic.
I know the lighting can be flattering, but no parking lot is romantic (exception noted below). Parking lots are too loud, too crowded, and the people there are too nosy. There is too much going on and your match of tonsil hockey is going to be constantly interrupted.
Go somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of late-night shoppers and traffic. Admire the lights from a distance, not from below.
This isn't high school. You don't have a curfew, so be creative. Choose somewhere that's safe, but a little ways off the beaten path. Remember, choosing a location is like your education:
the more work you put into it, the more you will get out of it, generally speaking. A good example is one of the many scenic stops on the Natchez Trace Parkway. It's a bit of a drive, but it pays off it for the uninterrupted starry sky, the views of the river and the complete sense of privacy.
I am going to list a few of my own suggestions for readers as well, but first, a final disclaimer. Be careful.
