The show opens tonight, and runs through Saturday. Curtain time is 7:30 each night, with tickets on sale at the door beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for students and UNA employees and $10 for the general public.
The university's annual student theater production features directing, acting and design work by UNA students. Seniors in UNA's theater program submitted proposals to direct a play for the season, and senior Brian Barnett was selected to direct Dumb Show.
"Brian's proposal was chosen because of the relevancy of the subject matter and his overall understanding of the script's concepts," said Dr. David Ruebhausen, associate professor of communications and theater at UNA. "Brian has a desire to continue his work in theater as a director beyond his school tenure. We believed this project provides merit for the other students involved in the production, while allowing him more experience in the field of directing."
Dumb Show is about a man named Barry whose job is to make people laugh. When the camera is on, he's the king of the world. But like any other king, he has his secrets. This modern British play explores the boundaries of privacy in the relentless world of tabloid journalism and paparazzi.
