The annual WalkAmerica, which benefits the March of Dimes, will be held on Saturday, April 14, at 9 a.m. at Flowers Hall.

Miles Thompson is the ambassador for the Shoals WalkAmerica this year. Miles is the son of Amy Thompson (administrative secretary, Social Work and Criminal Justice) and Brian Thompson (associate professor, Physics and Earth Science). Miles is also a student at the Kilby Child Development Center. Miles was born 15 weeks prematurely, weighing only 1 pound, 14 ounces. Today at age 5, Miles has no lingering effects from his premature birth, due in large part to the research from the March of Dimes.

According to information provided by the March of Dimes, today in the United States, one in every eight babies will be born prematurely. Some of them will not survive, and others will have health problems that could last a lifetime. The funds raised in WalkAmerica support research that saves babies' lives, MOD says

Anyone who would like to participate in the WalkAmerica and/or donate to the March of Dimes, may contact Amy Thompson at arthompson@una.edu or go to the website.
