American Kara Goucher ripped off the gloves she wore for the first 25 miles and threw them to the pavement. The sprint was on. Kenya's Salina Kosgei outkicked Goucher and defending champion Dire Tune in the last mile of the Boston Marathon on Monday, going back and forth with Tune in the final blocks of Boylston Street to win the closest women's finish in event history.
UNA's final home baseball game of the 2009 season was rained out Sunday as the Lions were unable to complete their Gulf South Conference series with West Alabama. The Lions and Tigers split a double-header on Saturday and were set to play the rubber game of the series but torrential rain throughout the day made the field unplayable.
Despite rainy conditions all day, UNA managed to hold on to its narrow lead and edged Washburn by two strokes in the UNA Spring Classic at the Robert Trent Jones of the Shoals Fighting Joe Course. UNA's final round of 308 gave the Lions a 21-over-par 597 total.
