The seventh annual Global Culture Night took place on April 18, at 7 p.m. in the Norton Auditorium. Over 200 students, staff, faculty and members of the community attended the event. The performances were followed by a buffet dinner showcasing world cuisine in the GUC.
The 2009 Sakura Festival was held Thursday, April 16 in the GUC. It was hosted by the Japanese Global Network organization and featured a karate demonstration and a fashion show.
Two of the most popular groups in the Shoals' music scene have split up and reformed as a new band. Groundswell members Matt Oliver and Brad Reeves have teamed with Even the Moon founders Scott McKinney and Kevin Reed to form Barrelmouth, and are currently touring Alabama and Tennessee and working on a new album with plans to release the first track by the end of the summer.
Music education majors Leah Leong and Mandy Quinn will be performing their senior recitals on Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m. in Norton Auditorium. Leong will be accompanied by bass drummers Chris Barnes, Nathaniel Michal, Matt Barnes, Luke Mosteller and Dennis Crosby along with Russ McCollum on trumpet.
Our culture is obsessed with weight, and yet many of us are guessing what our ideal weight should be, and unfortunately, in many cases, trying to achieve that weight by taking unhealthy actions. A March survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed that people who worry about their weight reported feeling more unhealthy than those who didn't worry about it.
