By Kendal Weaver Associated Press MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Former Sen. Howell Heflin, an influential voice on judicial nominations, including the tumultuous hearings for Clarence Thomas, has died. He was 83. Heflin was an old-line Southern Democrat with an easy, folksy charm that made him one of Alabama's most popular political figures.
The "Tattoo & Body Piercing Seminar" provided useful information for approximately 30 students and staff in Towers Cafe on March 22. Resident assistants Kim West and Brenton Allen sponsored the program, and refreshments were served before the seminar began.
Anthony Sparks has a problem, he says as he takes a break from packing up the contents of his desk. Sparks, who served this year as UPC vice president for the Student Government Association, is preparing to move two doors down and begin his term as UNA's next SGA president on April 11.
The UNA National Alumni Association will host a silent auction during the 2005 Fine Arts Festival to benefit the Hilda Mitchell Scholarship for the Arts on April 8 and 9. Carol Lyles, UNA director of alumni relations, said there are many pieces of art up for bid.
Kim Greenway, the director of Student Life, completed her dissertation on March 12. She received her doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from Azusa Pacific University, which is located in Azusa, Calif. "It was a really intensive program," said Greenway.
Shannon Wells, UNA's official photographer, and the student photography staff whose work appears regularly in The Flor-Ala and the Diorama, will be featured in a photography exhibition opening today. The "Wells & Company" photography exhibition opening reception is today at 2 p.
